Corinne Lomon Law

Artist Statement

Corinne Lomon was initially fine art trained and went on to study a Bachelor of Art in Silversmithing and Jewellery at Loughborough College of Art and Design in Leicestershire, England. She graduated in 1993 with a first class honours degree. Initially inspired by processes used for making tools for jewellery. Corinne began working to produce sculptural forged works. After graduating she went on to begin an apprenticeship at Tasso Forge in Hammersmith, London.

She moved to Melbourne in 1998 where she had a studio space at the Meat Market in North Melbourne, when it was run by Metro Gallery. Now based at her own studio, she designs and makes Jewellery and sculptural pieces and currently has a body of work at incube8r Gallery in Fitzroy. Much of her work is based on, and abstracted from, her observational drawings.

The creatures begin life as drawings and emerge from the forge taking on a life of their own. Each is unique, mysteriously evolving and developing its own personality. She is passionate about the use of traditional techniques and loves working in a range of metals, from silver and gold to steel and bronze. The appreciation of handmade, original art work is something that she values highly and would love to see this reach a wider audience. p>
